Focus on Quality Interpreters and National Certification

In our declaration to provide professionalism to the healthcare industry, we are partnering with the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) for interpreters to become nationally certified. In September, CCHI and Intelligere co-hosted initial informational events on national certification — over 80 interpreters attended. The feedback has been positive as interpreters recognize the value of being nationally certified. Additional information regarding the certification process can be found on CCHI’s website.

The discussion around “quality” interpreters continues and national certification is key element in quality assurance.  On July 18, 2016, Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act became effective; this change directly impacts the interpreter profession as it changes the legal standard from “competent” interpreters to “quality” interpreters.  For more information on “How does Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act affect interpreters?” click here.
